چکیده
The interactions among neutral polymer polyacrylamide (PAM) and the biosurfactant Surfactin and four betaines, N-dodecyl-N,N-dimethyl-3-ammonio-1-propanesulfonate (SDDAB), N-tetradecyl-N,N-dimethyl-3-ammonio-1-propanesulfonate (STDAB), N-hexadecyl-N,N-dimethyl-3-ammonio-1-propanesulfonate (SHDAB), and N-dodecyl-N,N-dimethyl-2-ammonio-acetate (C12BE), in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) have been studied by surface tension measurements, small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), and rheological experiments. It has been confirmed that the length of alkyl chain is a key parameter of interaction between betaines and PAM. Differences in scattering contrast between X-ray and neutrons for surfactants and PAM molecules provide the opportunity to separately follow the changes of structure of PAM and surfactant aggregates. At concentrations of betaines higher than CMC (critical micelle concentration) and C2 (CMC of surfactant with the presence of polymer), spherical micelles are formed in betaines and betaines/PAM solutions. Transition from spherical to rod-like aggregates (micelles) has been observed in solutions of Surfactin and Surfactin/SDDAB (αSurfactin = 0.67 (molar fraction)) with addition of 0.8 wt % of PAM. The conformation change of PAM molecules only can be observed for Surfactin/SDDAB/PAM system. Viscosity values follow the structural changes suggested from scattering measurements i.e., gradually increases for mixtures PAM → Surfactin/PAM → Surfactin/SDDAB/PAM in PBS.

Application of small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues
ABSTRACT Background: Coherent scattering leads to diffraction effects and especially constructive interferences. Theseinterferences carry some information about the molecular structure of the tissue. As breast cancer isthe most widespread cancer in women, this project evaluated the application of small angleX-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues....
متن کاملStudy on Mechanical and microcrystalline on hybrid nanocomposites by WAXS
The aim of this work is to probe the influence of nanoclay and turmeric spends content on microcrystalline of vinyl ester hybrid nanocomposites. A series of vinyl ester hybrid nanocomposites have been fabricated with varying amounts of TS viz., 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 % w/w along with 2% nanoclay. The microcrystalline parameters such as crystallite size and lattice strain of vinyl ester hybrid na...

متن کاملConformation, directed self-assembly and engineered modification: some recent near surface structure determinations by grazing incidence small angle X-ray and neutron scattering
Some recent developments in grazing incidence small angle scattering (GISAS) technique are reviewed. The emphasis is on the application of GISAS to elucidating the effects of geometrical surface constraint on self-assembled systems and the effect of modification of interfaces or molecular subassemblies to direct the formation of more complex structures. متن کاملThe conformation of a large RNA fragment from the E.coli ribosomal 16S-RNA. An X-ray and neutron small-angle scattering study.
A large 12S RNA fragment which constitutes the 5' two-thirds of 16S-RNA from the E. coli 30S subunit has been investigated by small-angle X-ray and neutron scattering. The results indicate that in reconstitution buffer the 12S-RNA fragment has a molecular weight of 270,000 +/- 20,000 and a radius of gyration of 7.1 nm. The scattering data are compatible with the RNA being folded into two major ...
